How to Turn Everyday AI Use into Powerful, Purposeful Results with Simple Prompting Techniques
Carrie J. Little, MS & Dr. Mina J. Blazy
As a real estate broker and educator, I log into ChatGPT the way I log into my email or MLS—daily. Early on, “prompt engineering” sounded intimidating, like I needed a new degree. Then I realized I was already doing it: giving the AI a clear role, a little context, a specific task, and a preferred format and tone. That’s it.
Here’s how I work. If I’m going live on Instagram for Coffee with Carrie, I’ll draft my outline in Evernote, then paste it into ChatGPT and ask it to organize and clean up grammar without changing my ideas. For market content, I’ll tell ChatGPT to “act as a data-savvy real estate expert for West Chicago, Illinois,” then ask it to compare median sales price, list-to-sale ratios, and inventory now versus five and ten years ago, and produce a blog, a seller letter, and short video scripts. The human part still matters: I verify sources, check numbers, and make sure the language matches my brand and compliance needs.
“Prompt engineering isn’t about being a tech expert—it’s about learning to ask better questions so AI can help you work smarter, not harder.” – Carrie J. Little
Mina and I teach a simple framework you can reuse:
- Role: Who should the AI be? (e.g., “data-driven real estate expert”)
- Context: What’s the situation or audience?
- Task: What do you want? (answer a question, draft a letter, outline a script)
- Format: Bullets, paragraphs, table, or script?
- Tone: Professional, friendly, or neutral?
“Prompt engineering is really about design—shaping your words so AI gives you meaningful, accurate results that truly fit your goals.” – Dr. Mina Jo Blazy
Start at the “surface level” with email rewrites or outline cleanup. Then add structure. The more clearly you ask, the better the output. Practice won’t make perfect—but it will make you proficient. AI is here to assist, not replace your judgment. Show up, learn, verify, and use these tools to save time and serve your clients better.
